No-Thought as the Foundation
No-thought as the chief, no-form as the substance, no-dwelling as the root.
Am I gripping one passed-by thought, tying my mind to that spot?
📝Reflection
To hear "no-thought" as emptying the head is to misunderstand. It is not erasing thoughts, but not settling down on them when they come — as a bird crossing the sky leaves no trace. I long lived the opposite: gripping one worry, piling more worries upon it, until that single thought filled the whole day. The non-dwelling Huineng spoke of is letting thought flow. A river, unblocked, clears itself. So does the mind. Held loosely, even a heavy thought eventually walks away on its own.
🌱Apply It Today
When a thought keeps returning today, don't fight to push it out — treat it as a passing bird and let it go. Not gripping is the true emptying.
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
