The Rest-Town Conjured on a Long Road
For the weary, the guide conjured a city where they might rest awhile.
Have I mistaken a temporary rest-stop for the final destination, and stopped there?
📝Reflection
When travelers, worn out on a long road, sink down unable to go on, a wise guide conjures a splendid city for a while. They rest there and regain strength. But the guide leads them onward again, saying, "this is not the end; the true destination lies farther ahead." The beauty of this parable is twofold. One: a long life-journey absolutely needs rest-stops along the way — it does not say go without rest to the end. Two: do not mistake the rest-stop for the terminus. Settle into a small achievement or a comfortable stability as "the end," and you stop there. Rest fully when you rest, but remember it is only a city to pause in — only then can you rise and walk again.
🌱Apply It Today
For some stability or achievement you rest in now, gauge: "is this the terminus, or a city to pause in?" You enjoy the rest yet do not forget the road.
