ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με, μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά

Let the little children come, and do not hinder them, for the truest realm belongs to such as these.

The disciples thought the children were a nuisance to the teacher and tried to block them. But this reply says the opposite — do not block them; learn instead from that very sincerity. Children approach without proving any qualification. Without calculation, without suspicion, they simply come close. What we have lost is not knowledge, but that unadorned way of drawing near.
