Mencius
Did I speak what I believed was right today, even at a cost?
📝ONGO's Reflection
Mencius was fearless before kings. His weapon was not a sword but a single firm conviction — that within the human heart there is already a sprout that recognizes what is right. We often bury that sprout for the sake of gain. It looks like a minor concession, but bury it again and again and nothing is left in its place. The vast, flowing spirit Mencius spoke of is not the bravado of some grand hero, but the everyday courage of coaxing that small sprout back above the soil each day. Changing an age begins there.
"When Heaven is about to confer a great office on a man, it first exercises his mind with suffering."Mencius, 孟子 告子下 (Mencius, Gaozi II)
🌱Apply It Today
When someone says or does something unjust today, say, even in the smallest voice, "I'm not sure that's right." When silence looks like peace, it is the most expensive peace there is.
