An Jung-sik Seongjaesugan

성재수간 (소나무 정자에서 물을 바라보다)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Is the time spent quietly watching flowing water truly a time of doing nothing?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

The scholar in this painting by An Jung-sik sits in a pavilion and simply watches the water. This still scene, which may be set beside Kim Hong-do's Painting of Autumn Sounds, holds no event and no hurry of figures. Yet I know this much. To watch water is not an empty time but a time that fills the inside. Looking at a river that flows without cease, where the same water never comes twice, a person measures the flow and the stillness within himself. Only the one who pauses to watch can read the direction of the current.
