묵련도 (연꽃)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does the flower that blooms from the mud yet is not defiled teach us?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This anonymous Chinese ink painting holds a lotus. The lotus puts its roots in muddy water, yet is not stained by that filth and blooms a clear flower. People of old likened it to one who keeps himself even amid a world like mud. This teaching of the lotus is constant in any land. Here I see the power of keeping. It is easy to blame one's surroundings, yet in the same mud one is stained while another blooms a flower. Whatever the surrounds may be, it is oneself in the end that decides what not to be stained by.

However muddied the surrounds become, fix clearly upon one thing you will not be stained by.
