Jeong Seon-Taking a reast after reading books

🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"Even in the moment of closing a book and resting awhile, what remains?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a painting said to be Gyeomjae Jeong Seon's portrait of himself. A scholar, pausing from his reading to gaze at the flowers in a pot, holds himself with composure. I am fond of this scene of rest. Rest is not the halting of work but the time in which what was read settles. Knowledge poured in is set down awhile, and only in the lingering does it find its place. The stillness that fills the scene says as much. No less than diligent filling, the empty space that savors what has been filled is what makes a person deep.

🌱Apply It Today

After learning, do not rush straight to the next thing; leave an empty space to savor it awhile.
