"What is the meaning of gathering the Buddhas of past, present, and future onto one surface?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a Buddhist painting of Yongjusa, said to be by Kim Hong-do, which gathers the three Buddhas of past, present, and future in one place. It sets the time that has flowed away, the now, and the time to come face to face on a single surface. From this simultaneity I learn how to see time. People are often bound to what is past or driven by what is to come, and miss the now. But that the three times stand in one place means that the repentance of the past and the wish of the future both dwell within this present moment. The present is the one and only place where past and future meet.
