🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"When painting one person's face, what did the painter try to hold?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is Yi Han-cheol's portrait of Chusa Kim Jeong-hui. Chusa was a man who, within the long ordeal of exile on Jeju, instead brought his own calligraphy to completion. A portrait is the work of carrying over an outward likeness, but a good portrait holds even the years that person has endured. In this calm face I see a firmness carved out of hardship. A person's face is the place where the road he has walked is engraved. The expression I wear today will one day become my face as well.
