Autumn in Sakatsu

사카쓰의 가을
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What was in the heart that tried to hold a village's autumn upon the canvas?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This painting by Kojima Torajiro holds the autumn light that settled over the village of Sakatsu. The eye of one born in Japan and trained in Western technique rested upon the color of a single season. I see here the heart that tries to hold what is passing. Autumn will soon withdraw and the leaves will fall. The painter carried that vanishing light onto the canvas and stayed time for a moment. No one's autumn lingers. And so people, to remember a passing instant, hold it and write it down. Because it cannot be held, it is the more precious.
