This is another leaf from the Chinese landscape album by Li Jian. Though they came from the same painter's hand, the mountain's expression and the water's flow differ from leaf to leaf. The reason a series by one person each turns out different is that, even seen with the same eye, something new is found each time. Even a familiar subject shows a different face each time it is looked into. To have seen once is not to have known all. The eye that finds newness by looking again and again at the same thing makes depth.
