🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What did the one who painted a poet exiled again and again see in him?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

An unknown Joseon painter portrayed the Song poet Su Shi. Though he endured repeated exile and frustration, his poetry never in the end lost its open, generous spirit. Here, I think, lies the reason Joseon scholars admired him from across the sea. Hardship can make a person small, or instead make him wide. He did not harden his frustration into resentment but released it into rivers and moonlight. What people look up to is not talent but the breadth of a heart that does not collapse.
