Where One Sees No Other, That Is the Vast
Where one sees no other, hears no other, knows no other — that is the vast. But where one sees another, hears another — that is the small.
Am I so busy comparing with 'something else' that I am never wholly here?
📝Reflection
This verse defines 'vast' and 'small' by the presence or absence of comparison. The mind always comparing with something else is itself the small — endlessly measuring that person against me, that life against this, never wholly here. Conversely, the state fully immersed in this now, with no other to compare, is the vast. When a child is so lost in play that time is forgotten, when we are absorbed in work we love until even 'I' is forgotten — there is no comparison there, and so it is full. True abundance comes not from more options but from being wholly present to this now.
🌱Apply It Today
While doing something today, switch off the comparing mind for a while and immerse wholly in that alone.
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
