DAY 49

The Self-Governed Work yet Stay Unstained

Bhagavad Gītā 5:7
기원전 2세기경 편찬(서사시 전승)
ORIGINAL
yoga-yukto viśuddhātmā vijitātmā jitendriyaḥ ... kurvann api na lipyate
📜 THE VERSE

One steadied in balance, self-conquered, senses mastered, who sees the self in all beings — such a one acts, yet is not stained by the action.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Believing that the deeper I step into worldly affairs the more my mind is muddied, do I only want to withdraw?

📝Reflection

In this verse I learn how to live clearly within the world. Being unstained comes not from fleeing the world but from meeting it with a clear, self-governed mind. Like the lotus leaf that stays unstained though it sits in mud, a steadied mind keeps its own color even amid busy work. This wide eye — seeing the self in all beings — is the very root of unshaken strength. Rather than trying to grow clear by escaping the world, I choose to keep one mind clear in the very midst of it.
