Reading the short fables told by Sa'di, the great Persian poet, I felt a warmth as if sitting across from a wise grandfather of a thousand years ago, sharing tea. Even as he sharply pricks the hypocrisy and folly of all manner of human beings, from kings to beggars, beneath his gaze lies a deep compassion and humor toward humankind.
