One day, as I complained that I had no time, I read this letter of Seneca's and my face burned. "It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste much of it." He rebukes us: we scrap and struggle to keep others from taking even a penny of our wealth, yet we hand over time, our most precious asset, to others and to meaningless tasks so easily. This book asks the piercing question of who truly holds sovereignty over my hours. Whenever I wish to deepen the density of my life, I keep it close as a stimulant for the soul.
