A Single Speck Holds the Whole World

Avatamsaka Sutra — "Within a single mote of dust, the ten directions are contained"

📜 THE VERSE

Within a single mote of dust, all ten directions are held.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

In one moment of today I let slip as trivial, how much was actually held?

📝Reflection

We take it for granted that big things live in big places and small in small. Yet Huayan says the whole world is held within a single speck of dust. It is no exaggeration. A single drop carries the nature of the whole river; one seed holds an entire forest folded within. So with our lives. Waiting for grand moments, we keep letting this ordinary instant slip — yet the grain of our whole life is held within that one instant. The eye that sees the small as merely small is the eye that misses the great.

🌱Apply It Today

Pick the most ordinary minute of today and look slowly into what it held. A small frame contains surprisingly much.
