ORIGINAL

📜 THE VERSE

As an elephant in battle endures the arrows flying from all sides, so will I bear harsh words; for many in the world speak ill.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I collapse too easily at one harsh word from another?

📝Reflection

An elephant in battle does not retreat when struck by arrows. It cannot stop the arrows from coming, but it does not lose its formation by being jerked around. This verse asks us to resemble that elephant's solid weight. There will always be people in the world who speak carelessly. However well we do, someone will criticize. We cannot block it all, for we cannot control the arrows being loosed. But how we respond to those arrows, we decide. Being shaken all day by one harsh word is like an elephant toppling at a single arrow. To endure is not to grow numb but the firmness of being struck without being swept away. If we cannot stop every arrow in the world, we can at least build the weight that does not fall to them.

🌱Apply It Today

When someone throws a harsh word today, before being shaken, repeat inwardly once: "like an elephant in battle." Weight endures the arrow.
