DAY 92

The Highest Blessing Is Right Living

Sutta Nipāta 2.4 (The Discourse on Blessings)
최초기 경전 (기원전 4~3세기)
ORIGINAL
Etādisāni katvāna, sabbatthamaparājitā; sabbattha sotthiṃ gacchanti, taṃ tesaṃ maṅgalamuttamaṃ.
📜 THE VERSE

Those who live thus are undefeated everywhere, and everywhere come to safety. This is their highest blessing.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I seek blessing in luck, or in the way I live?

📝Reflection

When people asked what true fortune was, the Buddha named no amulet, no auspicious day. To keep away from fools, to never tire of learning, to honor one's parents, to speak without quarrel — he counted out these ordinary textures of life, one by one, and called them blessings. This final verse is the conclusion: one who lives so is undefeated wherever they go. Blessing does not fall from the sky; it is solid ground built up from small daily choices. To refine the texture of life rather than pray for luck — that is the surest amulet.

Instead of wishing "if only luck were on my side" today, pick one small action that will keep you from collapsing — and do it.
