Mind Itself Is No-Mind
This very mind, just as it is, is the unmoved mind.
Am I forcing myself to manufacture some special mental state in the name of peace?
📝Reflection
It is easy to misread "no-mind" as a blank numbness with the mind emptied out. Huangbo dissolves that error: no-mind is not erasing the mind, but this very mind, just as it is, sticking to nothing. Not making a new mind, but only removing attachment from the present one. We keep trying to add something for peace — a special technique, a special state, a self unlike usual. But Huangbo says there is nothing to add. If this present mind simply clings to nothing, that itself is no-mind. A river clears not by pouring in new water, but by not stirring up mud. Set down only the mind that strains to be special, and this ordinary present mind is already enough.
🌱Apply It Today
When the mind is tangled today, don't strain to build a special calm — just say, "let me release one thing this mind is gripping." That is enough.
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
