📜 THE VERSE

When the breath comes in, know it coming in; when it goes out, know it going out. Simply be aware — long breath as long, short breath as short.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Did I once today clearly feel my own breath coming in and going out?

📝Reflection

The simplest yet deepest practice is watching the breath. The breath is always with us, yet we scarcely notice it all our lives, for it comes and goes automatically. And that very fact makes it a special anchor. When the mind wanders endlessly through past regret and future anxiety, the breath is always "here and now." This in-breath, this out-breath, is never yesterday's nor tomorrow's — only now's. So placing the mind on the breath drops an anchor, and the wandering mind returns to the present. This is no special religious act. When anxious, angry, or at a loss, just feel your breath clearly three times. In that brief moment, the mind touches ground amid the storm. The nearest tool of peace is always right at the tip of your nose.

🌱Apply It Today

In a restless moment today, stop and clearly feel your breath come and go just three times. Three breaths drop an anchor for the scattered mind.
