Nothing to Attain, Nothing to Fear
No wisdom to gain, nothing to attain. Because there is nothing to attain, the mind is unobstructed. Unobstructed, it knows no fear.
Do I believe I'll only be all right once I've attained something?
📝Reflection
Fear usually comes from "lest I lose." But this verse asks: if there was nothing gained to begin with, is there anything to lose? We run our whole lives to attain something — achievement, recognition, security. And once we have it, we grow anxious lest we lose it. In this tug-of-war of gain and loss, the mind never rests an instant. "Nothing to attain" here does not mean give up. It means lay down the very belief that happiness depends on attaining something. When we know we are already whole, just as we are, obstruction vanishes — and fear vanishes with it.
🌱Apply It Today
When you think "I'll only be happy once I get this" today, ask back once: "Am I not actually fine just as I am now?"
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
