DAY 326

A Small Spark Sets a Forest Ablaze

James 3:5
기원후 1세기
ORIGINAL
ἡ γλῶσσα μικρὸν μέλος ἐστὶ καὶ μεγάλα αὐχεῖ. ἰδοὺ ἡλίκον πῦρ ἡλίκην ὕλην ἀνάπτει.
📜 THE VERSE

The tongue is a small part, yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Has a careless word of mine ever become an unquenchable fire in someone?

📝Reflection

The wildfire that burns a forest begins with a spark no bigger than a fingernail. James likens the tongue to that spark. A word tossed off without thought can burn a relationship and topple a person. I still carry a scar from something someone said carelessly long ago, and I know, too, that my words have burned others. Words cannot be taken back. So, as with a spark, one must be able to put it out once before it leaves the mouth.

🌱Apply It Today

When an angry retort comes to mind today, ask "Could this become a fire?" and put it out for one beat.
