The Faithful Keep a Confidence

Proverbs 11:13
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
הוֹלֵךְ רָכִיל מְגַלֶּה־סּוֹד וְנֶאֱמַן־רוּחַ מְכַסֶּה דָבָר
📜 THE VERSE

A gossip betrays a confidence, but the trustworthy in spirit keep a secret.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Have I ever passed along, for amusement, a story someone entrusted to me?

📝Reflection

Trust takes long to build but collapses in an instant — an instant that usually begins with gossip: 'I'm only telling you.' The Hebrew sage saw the ability to keep a secret as the measure of faithfulness. One who covers a story entrusted to them is a person of weight; one who passes it lightly becomes, in the end, someone no one confides in. Another's secret is like an object they placed in my keeping — the moment I pull it out carelessly, friendship leaks out with it. This is why people gather around the one whose mouth is heavy.

🌱Apply It Today

When tempted to pass along someone's story today, ask: 'Would I say this if they were in the room?'
