DAY 55

A Peaceful Heart Is Life to the Body

Proverbs 14:30
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
חַיֵּי בְשָׂרִים לֵב מַרְפֵּא וּרְקַב עֲצָמוֹת קִנְאָה
📜 THE VERSE

A peaceful heart gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I see that the mind of comparison is gnawing at my own body and my own day?

📝Reflection

The Hebrew sage already knew that mind and body are joined as one. A peaceful heart gives the body life, but envy gnaws a person from within the bones. The dread of envy is that it harms the other not at all while wounding only me. If your insides burn each time you see another prosper, that fire consumes not them but your own bones. This is why the Stoics said not to stake the heart on what lies beyond your control. Peace comes not from having everything but from deciding not to count what you lack. To look at your own cup rather than another's — that is the wisdom of heart that gives life even to the body.
