DAY 6

Cry Out for Understanding

Proverbs 2:3
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
כִּי אִם לַבִּינָה תִקְרָא
📜 THE VERSE

If you long to understand, raise your voice and call out for insight.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Have I only waited for wisdom to arrive, without ever earnestly seeking it?

📝Reflection

Wisdom does not seep on its own into one who sits still. The Hebrew verb here means to call out aloud. Dig for it as for silver, the next verse says, search as for hidden treasure. Insight does not come to the one seated in comfort but to the one who is desperately thirsty. It is the same principle as Confucius's 'I do not open the door for those who are not eager.' The size of the longing decides the depth of the learning. To one who does not seek, wisdom always belongs to someone else.
