Proverbs 6:6
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
לֵךְ־אֶל־נְמָלָה עָצֵל רְאֵה דְרָכֶיהָ וַחֲכָם
📜 THE VERSE

Go to the ant, you sluggard; watch its ways and be wise.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I get today's work done on my own, even when no one is telling me to?

📝Reflection

To teach wisdom, the Hebrew sage points not to a philosopher but to an ant. The ant has no overseer, no boss urging it on. Yet it diligently prepares in summer for winter. What this verse pierces is our laziness that moves only when told. One who governs himself does his part even when no one watches. It touches the Confucian idea of shendu — being careful even when alone. Diligence is not some grand talent but begins in not postponing one small thing today that no one sees. The tiniest insect gives the largest lesson.
