DAY 195

The One Thing I Ask

Psalm 27:4
기원전 10~5세기
ORIGINAL
אַחַת שָׁאַלְתִּי מֵאֵת־יְהוָה
📜 THE VERSE

One thing I ask, only this: to dwell in quiet, gazing on what is beautiful.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

What is the "one thing" I truly ask for?

📝Reflection

This poet lists a hundred things, then suddenly stops and says: what I ask is really only one. Life grows chaotic not because we want much, but because we do not know the one thing we truly want. To dwell, gazing on what is beautiful — before that humble single wish, the other desires fall quiet. My list was always long, so I was always busy and always hungry. To name the one thing I truly wanted was also the courage to set down the other ninety-nine.
