DAY 202

As a Deer Longs for Streams

Psalm 42:1
기원전 10~5세기
ORIGINAL
כְּאַיָּל תַּעֲרֹג עַל־אֲפִיקֵי־מָיִם
📜 THE VERSE

As a deer pants for streams of water, so my soul thirsts for something like it.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

What is my soul truly thirsting for right now?

📝Reflection

Nothing is as honest as the thirst of a deer running over parched ground. The poet is not ashamed of the longing within; rather, he looks straight at it. We often try to soothe thirst with something else, drinking whatever water is at hand without knowing our true thirst. But salt water only deepens the thirst. I gulped many cups busily, never asking what I was thirsty for. To know the true name of my own longing was the first step toward stopping the empty drinking.
