Jeong Seon-Taking a reast after reading books-d1

🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does a person gain in that brief rest after closing a book?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

Thought to be a self-portrait of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon, this painting holds the figure resting after reading. A scholar sits at ease, a book beside him, gazing at the flowers, and the scene is calm. I feel this short rest is as important as the reading itself. Merely pouring something in does not make it your own. Only while you pause and turn it over does what you have read seep into the heart at last. Rest is not idleness but another kind of study, the working through of what has been taken in.
