산수 (지두화)
🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does another landscape by the same hand say again?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is one of twelve landscapes painted with the fingers by Gao Qipei of Qing-dynasty China. The same person painted many leaves in the same manner, yet leaf by leaf the form of the mountain and the flow of the water differ. Though they came from one hand, not a single painting is the same. In this difference I see the truth of repetition. To do the same thing again and again does not produce the same thing. Into each touch of the hand the heart and breath of that day soak in. This is why the same task of yesterday and today is never the same. Repetition is not copying but being born anew each time.
