DAY 20

Without Peace of Mind, No Happiness

Bhagavad Gītā 2:66
기원전 2세기경 편찬(서사시 전승)
ORIGINAL
nāsti buddhir ayuktasya ... aśāntasya kutaḥ sukham
📜 THE VERSE

The ungoverned have no clear judgment, and without judgment, no peace of mind. And where there is no peace, how can there be happiness?

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I believe happiness will come once outer conditions are met, while neglecting the inner peace it rests on?

📝Reflection

Here the old teacher reverses the order of happiness. We usually assume that once conditions are met, peace comes and then happiness; but he says that if the inside is not at peace, happiness will not dwell in us no matter what we hold. However high the walls we build, an anxious heart trembles even inside the fortress. Before straining to fill the outside more, I mark again that stilling the waves within is the first button of happiness.
