DAY 41

Content Always, Free of Clinging to Fruit

Bhagavad Gītā 4:20
기원전 2세기경 편찬(서사시 전승)
ORIGINAL
tyaktvā karma-phalāsaṅgaṁ nitya-tṛpto nirāśrayaḥ
📜 THE VERSE

Having let go of clinging to the fruits of action, ever content and leaning on nothing, one may be deep in work yet in truth is bound by none of it.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Am I content only when work succeeds, or can I be content in the work itself, regardless of outcome?

📝Reflection

In this verse I relearn the conditions of contentment. A mind content only when results are good is always anxious, but a mind that draws contentment from the work itself stands firm regardless of outcome. To lean on nothing does not mean loneliness; it means the root of contentment is within me, not in outer conditions. It is the same ground where the Stoics grew a mind unshaken by circumstance. Instead of postponing contentment while awaiting results, I first drink one sip of small contentment from the work at hand.
