DAY 268

Leave the Company of the Wicked, Seek the Company of the Good

Subhashita (Traditional Sanskrit Maxims)
기원후 8세기경(샹카라 계열 전승 게송)
ORIGINAL
त्यज दुर्जनसंसर्गं भज साधुसमागमम् । कुरु पुण्यमहोरात्रं स्मर नित्यमनित्यताम् ॥ (tyaja durjanasaṃsargaṃ bhaja sādhusamāgamam, kuru puṇyam ahorātraṃ smara nityam anityatām)
📜 THE VERSE

Give up the company of the wicked, draw near to the company of the good; do good day and night, and always remember impermanence.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do the people I currently keep close make me more good, or the opposite?

📝Reflection

Four short commands form a whole guide for living — cut off bad company, draw near to good company, practice good every day, and never forget that everything passes. The last line supports the first three — only by remembering that life is finite do we stop treating our companionships carelessly and stop postponing good deeds.
