📜 THE VERSE

For the rest, that stillness comes by five steps — faith, vigor, mindful memory, concentration, and wisdom.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

If my practice keeps collapsing, which of these five stones am I missing?

📝Reflection

Patañjali sees an order even in the ripening of the mind. Śraddhā is "faith that sets the heart down" — trust that this path leads somewhere. Vīrya is the vigor rising from that faith; smṛti the mindful memory that keeps us from scattering; samādhi the gathering into one point; prajñā the wisdom that flowers at the end. The five link like a ladder. Without faith, no vigor; without vigor, no focus; without focus, wisdom never comes.
