This verse asks: for what are you here? The teacher unfolded all those skillful means and parables for one purpose alone — so that people might open and see the brightness within themselves. Behind countless words lay a single intent. I look back on my life. I do a thousand things: send mail, hold meetings, eat, quarrel and reconcile. But is there one great purpose threading them all? Without it, I am merely busy. With it, even busyness becomes meaning. A great life is not one that did many things, but one in which many things were aligned toward a single purpose. What, today, is my one great matter?
