Leave the Raft at the Shore
My teaching is like a raft for crossing a river. Even the right teaching must be set down once you have crossed — how much more the wrong.

A raft is endlessly welcome while crossing a river. But what of one who, having reached the far bank, hauls that heavy raft up a mountain on his back? Even what once carried us across becomes baggage when the place changes. We have such rafts too — the fierce conviction that lifted us in youth, the hard shield that let us endure wounds. Lifesaving then, but baggage now if still on our backs. The marvel of this verse is its command to set down even what is right, once its time has passed — for the better the tool, the more stubbornly it clings. Setting it down is not denial; it is what only one who is truly grateful for it can do.
