It Is Your Mind That Moves

📜 THE VERSE

It is not the wind that moves, nor the flag that moves — it is your mind that moves.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Is it the outer event that shakes me now, or my mind moving after it?

📝Reflection

Two men argued: one said "the wind moves," the other "the flag moves." Huineng said neither, and pointed to the mind. It sounds like wordplay at first, but it chills you the more you chew on it. Wind and flag surely move. But what receives that as a "disturbance" and gets stirred is my mind. Hearing the same criticism, some days I let it pass, some days I toss all night. The flag fluttered identically. What differed was my mind that day. Before blaming the world, first see what is fluttering inside me right now. Freedom begins there.

🌱Apply It Today

When anger flares today, swap "that thing shakes me" for "my mind is moving right now." The moment the subject changes, you take back the helm.
