DAY 127

One Generation Goes, Another Comes

Ecclesiastes 1:4
기원전 3세기경 편집 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
דּוֹר הֹלֵךְ וְדוֹר בָּא וְהָאָרֶץ לְעוֹלָם עֹמָדֶת
📜 THE VERSE

One generation passes away, and another comes, but the earth remains forever.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

How often do I forget that I am one passing generation on this ancient ground?

📝Reflection

Standing before this verse, the heart strangely widens. Countless feet trod this ground before me, and after I am gone the footprints will go on. This was the very scene when Confucius sighed by the stream, "What passes is like this." One may grieve that generations flow away like a river, but one may read it the other way. I need not carry the whole burden alone. I am but one runner in a relay, not someone made to sprint to the finish by myself.

🌱Apply It Today

Take one weight on your shoulders today and ask: "Must my one generation finish this, or is it enough to pass it on?"
