DAY 142

Nothing Better Than to Enjoy One's Own Work

Ecclesiastes 3:22
기원전 3세기경 편집 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
אֵין טוֹב מֵאֲשֶׁר יִשְׂמַח הָאָדָם בְּמַעֲשָׂיו
📜 THE VERSE

There is nothing better than that a person should rejoice in their own work, for that is their portion.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Comparing with others' work, am I missing the joy I could take in the work that is my own portion?

📝Reflection

The Preacher promises no vast inheritance or eternal fame. Instead he gives the plain prescription: "rejoice in the work that is your portion." The Hebrew "heleq" means the share of life given to each. The moment we envy another's portion, our own turns shabby; the moment we set our heart on our own, it becomes enough. It is like the Stoic "play well the role assigned to you." The work placed in my hands today — within that ordinary work, the joy of my portion already dwells.

🌱Apply It Today

In one task today, turn off comparison for a moment and do it as "this is my portion."
