DAY 137

A Time to Weep, a Time to Laugh

Ecclesiastes 3:4
기원전 3세기경 편집 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
עֵת לִבְכּוֹת וְעֵת לִשְׂחוֹק עֵת סְפוֹד וְעֵת רְקוֹד
📜 THE VERSE

A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Am I forcing a smile now, when it is truly a time to weep?

📝Reflection

The Preacher takes no side between weeping and laughing. He says only that each has its time. We rush to erase sorrow and feel ashamed of tears. Yet this verse grants that weeping too is a rightful season of life. It is like Aurelius, who did not suppress emotion but said "let it pass through." Only by weeping fully when it is time to weep do we laugh wholly when it is time to laugh. Feelings have their seasons; not forcing the winter of grief into spring is the first step in tending the heart.

🌱Apply It Today

If you have been pressing down a sorrow, for five minutes do not push it away — just sit beside it.
