DAY 179

When a Few Years Are Gone, I Shall Go the Way of No Return

Job 16:22
기원전 6~4세기경 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
כִּי־שְׁנוֹת מִסְפָּר יֶאֱתָיוּ וְאֹרַח לֹא־אָשׁוּב אֶהֱלֹךְ
📜 THE VERSE

When a few years have come, I shall go the way from which I shall not return.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Knowing a way of no return lies ahead, what would I stop postponing today?

📝Reflection

Job says plainly that only a few years remain to him, and that at their end lies a way from which none return. This awareness of finitude, rather than frightening, sharpens life. Because there is no return, the bridge to be crossed now cannot be postponed. This is why the Stoics made "memento mori — remember death" a daily practice. One who knows there is an end cannot spend time carelessly. Reconcile now with those to be reconciled; say now what must be said. The very fact that there is a way of no return makes every meeting and word today as true as if it were the last.

🌱Apply It Today

Say one postponed word of reconciliation or thanks "now" today. The way of no return is always near.
