DAY 43

The Tongue of the Wise Brings Healing

Proverbs 12:18
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
יֵשׁ בּוֹטֶה כְּמַדְקְרוֹת חָרֶב וּלְשׁוֹן חֲכָמִים מַרְפֵּא
📜 THE VERSE

Rash words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Did my words today pierce someone, or heal someone?

📝Reflection

With the same tongue we can cut a person or save one. This verse paints the two faces of speech as sword and medicine. A word carelessly spat pierces deep like a blade, and that wound outlasts a wound of the body. By contrast, the words of the wise become medicine that raises up the fallen. The curious thing is that healing words are not always sweet ones. Sometimes a bitter word carrying truth, offered with a heart to save, is the finest medicine. The material of speech is not knowledge but the heart turned toward the other. Whether I use my tongue as sword or medicine today is always mine to decide.
