DAY 40

To Love Correction Is to Love Knowledge

Proverbs 12:1
기원전 10~4세기
ORIGINAL
אֹהֵב מוּסָר אֹהֵב דָּעַת וְשֹׂנֵא תוֹכַחַת בָּעַר
📜 THE VERSE

Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but whoever hates reproof is foolish.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I mistake the bitter words that grow me for words that hate me?

📝Reflection

To claim to love knowledge while hating correction — its only road — is a false love. The Hebrew sage points sharply at this contradiction, for learning must inevitably pass through the sting of 'I was wrong.' One who cannot swallow bitter words ends up trapped at his own level. As an athlete cannot improve without a coach's critique, a person cannot grow without a voice that names his faults. Of course reproof is not sweet. But only the tongue that can get the bitterness down reaches the sweetness of knowledge. The strength to bear correction is the very size of one's growth.
