DAY 99

Do Not Say, I Will Repay

Proverbs 24:29
기원전 10~6세기 편집 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
אַל־תֹּאמַר כַּאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה־לִי כֵּן אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹ
📜 THE VERSE

Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me."

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

In wanting to pay someone back, am I the one held captive longer?

📝Reflection

Paying back in kind seems fair, but the arithmetic of revenge always gnaws at me first. The other lives having forgotten, while I stay up all night scheming how to repay. This verse says drop the account entirely. Repaying resentment with resentment never breaks the chain. Rather, in the one person who repays wrong with virtue, the chain finally stops. The moment I decide not to repay, I am released from the matter.

🌱Apply It Today

For one thing you want to pay back today, ask, "If I drop this account, who goes free?"
