🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"What does it leave behind, to paint the face of a single person?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a portrait of Chusa Kim Jeong-hui by the court painter Yi Han-cheol. In the trim dress and the keen, luminous gaze, the dignity of a scholar lives on clearly. I feel that a portrait does not seize the appearance but the spirit of the person. A good portrait holds in its surface not only the brows and the wrinkles but the bearing the person upheld through a lifetime. Though the person departs, the posture by which he lived remains as a single painting, quietly asking those who look upon it how they will live.
