🖼 ONE LINE FROM THIS PAINTING

"By what is the space left empty, unfilled, filled?"

📝ONGO's Reflection

This is a landscape by the Japanese painter Kano Motonobu, in which firm mountain forms and broad empty space breathe together. It is the style that built the bone-structure of Kano-school painting, yet the resonance that empty space conveys reaches everyone. In this painting I see the power of emptiness. The space left unpainted, rather than painting all, calls to mind mist, water, and sky. Fill in everything and there is no gap for the viewer's imagination to enter. The courage to leave room summons a wider world.
