The Jewel Sewn into the Robe
A jewel is sewn into the lining, yet not knowing it, one wanders in poverty.
A help or gift I already received — do I forget it and only feel I lack?
📝Reflection
While a man lies drunk and asleep at a friend's house, the friend secretly sews a precious jewel into his robe. Waking, he leaves unaware and suffers long in poverty. Only much later, meeting the friend again, does he learn of the jewel in his garment. All that while, he was rich yet lived as a beggar. This parable points at how easily we forget what we received: a parent's love, a teaching someone offered, a gift we already hold. We plainly received it, yet live forgetting, always feeling something is short. A great part of happiness lies not in gaining anew but in recognizing the jewel already sewn into our robe.
🌱Apply It Today
When you feel "I have nothing" today, recall one thing already received but forgotten, and be grateful. The jewel in the robe becomes worth as much as you recognize it.
This verse is read as universal humanistic wisdom, not religion — no faith is promoted, and the reflection is 100% original ONGO content.
