The Days of Darkness Will Be Many — Remember

Ecclesiastes 11:8
기원전 3세기경 편집 (히브리 지혜문학)
ORIGINAL
כִּי אִם־שָׁנִים הַרְבֵּה יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם בְּכֻלָּם יִשְׂמָח
📜 THE VERSE

If a person lives many years, let them rejoice in them all — yet remember that the days of darkness will be many.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Do I rejoice enough in bright days while calmly ready to accept that dark days will come?

📝Reflection

The Preacher speaks of joy and darkness together. He says to rejoice in all our living days, yet not to forget that the days of darkness will be many. That these two sentences sit in one place is the depth of this wisdom. Remembering darkness on bright days makes the present more precious, and one who remembered brightness on dark days does not collapse. It is like the Buddha honestly seeing that suffering is mixed into life. To neither deny the darkness nor be swallowed by it. One who knows that light and shadow come by turns, and that this is life, hates the whole of life on no single day.

🌱Apply It Today

If today is bright, save some strength against the dark; if dark, recall "this too passes, and light comes."
