DAY 319

Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak

James 1:19
기원후 1세기
ORIGINAL
ἔστω πᾶς ἄνθρωπος ταχὺς εἰς τὸ ἀκοῦσαι, βραδὺς εἰς τὸ λαλῆσαι, βραδὺς εἰς ὀργήν.
📜 THE VERSE

Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

❓ TODAY'S QUESTION

Was I listening to them, or just choosing what I would say next?

📝Reflection

There is an old saying that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. This single line of James holds that wisdom in three beats: quick to listen, slow to speak, slower still to anger. For a long time I lived the order backwards—words first, anger next, and listening always last. Simply putting listening first makes half our quarrels vanish. The one who truly listens does not prepare a reply; they simply stay with the other.

🌱Apply It Today

In one conversation today, do not rehearse a reply—just listen fully until the other has finished.
